Chicago has long been a twang-heavy town, from the beginning of the National Barn Dance in the 1920s to the inception of the insurgent-country label Bloodshot Records in the 1990s. On any night of the week, you can find bands and solo artists, singer-songwriters and pickers, playing a wide range of music that falls under the twang umbrella: hard-core honky-tonk, bluegrass, swing, alt-country, rockabilly and all manner of rootsy hybrids in between.
